This unit is designed for people who loved year 11 spec and multiple choice questions. I personally do not know if I'd take it again due to having very little integrals (fun stuff) in a calc course
Which units require MATH1017? MATH1017 is a prerequisite for 29 units.
What is MATH1017 about? This unit delves deeply into the foundations of calculus and real analysis, and focuses on the development of critical thinking and logical reasoning skills which underpin mathematical methods and techniques used in solving problems that arise from science, engineering and business related fields. Emphasizing on rigorous mathematical reasoning, students will be exposed to the foundational aspects of mathematical logic, set theory (and their applications in mathematical analysis and problem-solving), real and complex numbers, limits-convergence-continuity (exploring these concepts from both intuitive and formal perspectives), differentiation (including Taylor series and its application to solving limits), integration (including the development of Riemann and Darboux integrals and their applications), and series. Through rigorous exploration and analysis, students will develop a profound understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of calculus and its applications across various disciplines. This unit is designed for those students who have passed WACE Mathematics Specialist ATAR or equivalent.
