Terms and Conditions

These terms govern your use of Curtin Honestly. By creating an account or posting content, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Who can use the site

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• You may hold only one account.
• Reviews are intended for students who have taken the unit they are reviewing. Verifying a student email address marks your reviews as coming from a verified student, but it does not confirm that you took any particular unit.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, store, and distribute that content as part of operating the site. This licence continues for content that remains published after your account is closed.

When you post a review, tip, or unit request, you agree that it:

• reflects your own genuine experience of the unit;
• does not identify or target staff or students in a way that is abusive, defamatory, or harassing;
• does not contain hate speech, threats, or discriminatory content;
• does not contain personal information about anyone other than yourself;
• does not contain assessment answers, exam content, or other material that would breach Curtin's academic integrity rules;
• is not paid for, incentivised by a third party, or posted on behalf of someone else.

Naming teaching staff is permitted where the comment concerns their teaching of the unit and is an honest opinion or a statement of fact. Comments about a person's private life, appearance, or protected attributes are not.

Aggregated and anonymised data

The whole point of the site is to turn individual reviews into numbers other students can use. You agree that we may store your contributions and use them to produce aggregated or anonymised information, and that we may publish, share, distribute, or licence that information, including commercially. That includes unit ratings, average workload and grades, would-take-again percentages, grade distributions, tag counts, and similar statistics, on the site or elsewhere.

Aggregated and anonymised information does not identify you and is not linked back to your account. We may continue to use it after your account is closed, since by then it no longer relates to you.

Moderation

We may remove content, or suspend or close an account, where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached. Anyone can report a review using the report control on it. Reports are reviewed by a moderator.

We do not check content before it is published, and we do not endorse it. Reviews are the opinions of the students who wrote them.

Anonymity

Reviews are displayed without your name or email address. They are still linked to your account in our database so that you can edit and delete your own reviews, and so we can enforce the one review per unit limit and investigate abuse. See the Privacy Policy for what this means in practice.

Promotions and prize draws

We sometimes run campaigns where writing qualifying reviews earns entries into a prize draw. Where we do:

• Only reviews that meet the published criteria for that campaign earn entries.
• Deleting a review removes any entry it earned.
• Reviews written solely to farm entries, or duplicate and low-effort reviews, may be removed and entries withdrawn.
• Specific campaign terms, including any eligibility rules and the draw date, are published with the campaign and prevail over this section where they conflict.

Availability

The site is provided as is. We do not guarantee it will be available without interruption or free of errors, and we may change or withdraw features at any time.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on content posted by other users, or from decisions you make about your studies based on the site.

Closing your account

You can close your account from your account page. By default your reviews stay on the site with their link to your account severed, because removing them would distort the ratings other students rely on. You can instead choose to delete your reviews along with your account.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Where changes are significant we will make a reasonable effort to notify registered users. Continuing to use the site after the change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.
