About this Unit

Students are introduced to structural design by considering broad design concepts and the utilisation of a limits states approach in design codes of practice. Structural design actions and limit state load combinations are determined using the Australian structural design actions codes of practice, and applied to design scenarios. The principles underpinning the Australian steel structures design code are examined and utilised in the design of structural steel elements subject to tension, compression, bending and combined actions, connection of steel elements, member restraints, structural bracing and steel member fatigue. Steel Design Capacity Tables are introduced.
