About this Unit

Combination of reinforced concrete, steel and timber design principles underpinning Australian design codes are examined and utilised in the design of structures with reinforced concrete, steel and timber members. Reinforced concrete and steel design principles are extended with their application to the design of portal frame structures. An integrated structural design project is to be undertaken, using a combination of timber, steel and reinforced concrete elements. Students will work in groups to develop concept designs for comparison. The detailed design of one concept design will be carried out (individually), including estimation of material quantities and a cost analysis utilising construction engineering approaches.
