About this Unit

The unit teaches and applies concepts such as developing project evaluation and selection, project organisation structure, initiation and financing. The unit aims to provide students with a working understanding of key project life cycle attributes and control of various project risks. Selection and allocation of physical and human resource, project planning systems, cash flow forecasting, methods of project control and performance analysis form a fundamental component of the course delivery. Principles of financial establishment and control of construction projects and an economic assessment of engineering proposals throughout their entire usable lifecycle utilising net present value, future value, present value, rate of return and benefit-cost analysis, construction finance estimating, planning, controlling, monitoring, and life cycle construction cost flow analysis. Interpersonal behaviour and team development, contractual issues, commission and maintenance are addressed in the context of project management resourcing with a particular focus around resource allocation and scheduling. This unit further aims to develop student’s skills in project scheduling and integration of key project interfaces.
