★★☆☆☆

The unit is almost entirely group work, and a lot of it. The expectations from first-year students is pretty high and unrealistic. Because of how large the cohort was, I was not able to get marks changed or reviewed. Very brutal unit and good for trauma bonding.

★☆☆☆☆

A burning hatred in my bones that only the sands of time shall come to see the fading embers of spur at the thought of this unit. The sheer amount of written content that was expected for this unit was absurd, at least from an engineering students perspective. The final report that my group turned in totaled 76 pages, just to get the most aggressively mediocre score ever. Something like 75%. Most of the people taking that unit alongside me had no drive whatsoever, and you'd think that being lucky enough to get a group that somewhat cared and put a decent amount of effort in would be enough to make the ordeal bearable. This probably would be the case if the dependance on other classmates didn't extend to other groups as well when it came time to review and contract other projects. Communication is NOT something everyone is good at. So make sure you are if you do this unit.

★★★☆☆

It was interesting. To be fair, the group report is only worth 15% of ur grade.(since attendance is worth5%) You should step up and present the final presentation if you want a good mark.

Please please please pray that you get a good group - they determine it on the very first day of workshops. This unit's basically all group work with no exam. I was very fortunate to have really responsible group members - it made this unit a little lighter. Don't worry about watching all the online lectures. Attending the workshops are more important. That's where you get group work done. If there's anything you're confused about in the workshops then check the lectures. Start the first project early. Try splitting the tasks up and keep track of what needs to be done each week for your report. Our group had an organised google docs with everything in it - I'd recommend that. Please don't do the CAD drawings last minute - make sure your group starts early with those. You have 1 group project report, 1 individual report (related to the group project) then a final group presentation with a model (that is DIY model). Lots of report writing but tbh if you get through this unit the skills you gain from report work are worthwhile and help make future reports in first year engineering feel like a breeze compared to INDE1001. Learn how to format & reference - I use that stuff till this day.
