What is NUTR2001 about?

Nutrient Metabolism builds on your foundation in the Biochemistry of Nutrition, exploring the science of key micronutrients with a focus on bioavailability, mechanisms of action, and excretion. Since we consume food rather than isolated nutrients, this unit emphasises the connection between nutrient metabolism, food-based guidelines, and broader dietary patterns. Through laboratory work including nutritional status assessments and engagement with current scientific literature, you will develop a deeper understanding of how metabolic principles inform dietary recommendations. By the end of this unit, you will be able to translate complex scientific concepts into real-world applications, enhancing your ability to evaluate and communicate nutritional information effectively.
