About this Unit

In this unit you will attend an intensive 4 weeks of block mode teaching to prepare you for your final year’s placement in a variety of settings. You will extend your knowledge on how to identify oral diseases and plan the appropriate care. You will learn more about the different factors (i.e., socio-medical, behavioural, cultural, communication) that can affect care offered to patients. You will expand your theoretical knowledge to encompass more advanced procedures in oral health therapy and the different specialties in dentistry such as implantology, gerodontology, forensics, and endodontics. You will learn how to manage behavioural issues in different patient categories. Teamwork, stress management, preparing for professional practice and career planning are part of this unit. You get an introduction to practice management and innovative (business) models developed or trialed by oral health therapists. An important part of your training will be the practical application of orthodontic supportive procedures and esthetic procedures such as tooth whitening.
