About this Unit

In this unit you will learn how to interpret medical histories and the requirements to offer safe and effective oral health care to patients with and without special needs. You will be introduced to several areas of special care, i.e. medically compromised, aged care, or people with a disability. You will explore the theory that will underpin your clinical practice when working in oral health care settings. You learn to analyse the oral-systemic link and how to offer patients the most suitable care whilst addressing their individual oral health needs. You will learn when to consult other health practitioners before treatment and how to adjust your care. You will gain insight into the role of the oral health therapist in early diagnosis of systemic health issues. This unit will deliver the theoretical foundation to work with patients that require special care.
