About this Unit

In this unit you will learn how apply research methods and skills in evidence informed practice. In this unit you will prepare a comprehensive literature review based on research evidence addressing a clinical or non-clinical problem. You are invited to select a topic based on your experiences in clinical practice or, from other placement settings. You will learn the importance of evidence-based practice to ensure your interventions are based on the most recent scientific research evidence. During this unit you will prepare a report and will be required to include efficacy, safety, cost effectiveness and patient preference in your review. The report will be developed in several stages including; defining a question related to a clinical (or non-clinical/policy) problem, performing a literature search, appraising and critiquing the evidence, discussing your findings and finally, providing recommendations for solutions that may be applied in (clinical) practice. The report will be presented in the format of a journal review article. This unit is based on self-directed learning, a scaffolded assessment submission and you can participate in regular consultation or support sessions and ‘sit down and write sessions’. At the end of this unit, you will present the information in a format that is useful for clinicians, patients or other key stakeholders.
