About this Unit

Within this unit, students will apply their theoretical knowledge to assess, diagnose, plan, manage, document, and evaluate patient care across the patient's lifespan (including scene safety, patient assessment, therapeutic management and diagnostic reasoning). Linked to the other semester 3 units, students will learn to assess and manage clinical conditions within a paramedic context. Assessment skills will be expanded with a key focus on identifying the deteriorating patient, performing diagnostic assessments, and using clinical reasoning to inform management. Additional airway skills will be introduced alongside increased medication options and intravenous access. All clinical practice will be grounded in relevant paramedic ethical, legal, professional, and person-centred frameworks, with a strong emphasis on reflective practice. Students will critically evaluate their experiences to develop self-awareness, enhance decision-making, and continuously improve the quality of care they provide.
