About this Unit

This unit builds on the non-clinical skills introduced in semester one. It will introduce the foundational clinical skills required for paramedic practice within a basic life support scope of practice. Students will build on their systematic patient assessment skills to identify and respond effectively to immediate health concerns. The unit will introduce the principles of safe medication administration through oral, topical, inhaled, intranasal and intramuscular routes. Students will also learn to manage unwell patients within a basic life support scope of practice. This includes core clinical skills such as essential airway management and resuscitation. Non-technical skills such as reflective practice, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving will be expanded in clinical and non-clinical settings. All clinical practice will be framed within relevant paramedic ethical, legal, professional and person-centred frameworks that will underpin student practice.
