About this Unit

This unit introduces the essential non-clinical skills required for paramedic practice. Students will explore psychological, social and cultural factors affecting communication in a healthcare context while also considering the power imbalance in the clinician-patient relationship. Basic vital sign acquisition will be taught, as well as how to integrate this into the initial patient assessment in a paramedic setting. Finally, students will learn the logistical and safety considerations required for safe paramedic practice, including scene assessment, manual handling and extrication skills.
