About this Unit

This unit will introduce the core principles of law, ethics and professional responsibilities that underpin contemporary patient-centred paramedic practice. Concepts explored will include confidentiality, capacity, consent, medication administration and the role of law in healthcare delivery and regulation. We will also explore professionalisation in paramedicine, as well as the associated concepts of professional culture and professional responsibilities outlined by the Paramedicine Board of Australia. We will examine the role of the paramedic as an allied health professional to contribute to an effective, safe and patient-centred health system.
