About this Unit

In this unit, students will build on previous knowledge to explore and solve complex legal, ethical and professional issues using a structured approach. Difficulties in determining capacity and consent in mental health, children and vulnerable populations will be explored. The role of the paramedic as a patient advocate for health equity and promoting diversity will be discussed. Students will then consider issues such as end-of-life care, recognition and reporting of abuse, evidence preservation, and victim support. Finally, students will consider the role of clinical governance and national safety frameworks in ensuring safe healthcare delivery. Students will also explore how their own mental health, empathy and self-compassion can impact clinical care.
