About this Unit

This unit introduces structure and functional design of microcontroller-supported mechatronic systems. Major components of a typical mechatronic systems are reviewed. Attributes and role of each major component of mechatronic systems are discussed. Students work in teams to program and build a mechatronic system controller and partake in an end of semester competition to demonstrate their controller systems. Major components of mechatronic system such as Sensors, Actuators, Timers and interrupts, Darlington drivers, Protection diodes; H-bridge, Voltage regulated power supply, Servomotors, Stepper motors, PWM-controlled DC motors, Analog-to-Digital converters, Keypads and, LCD displays are covered. Students also learn to program, compile, simulate and download embedded microcontrollers. Binary and bitwise programming techniques are also covered.
