About this Unit

This unit provides an introduction to highway engineering, railway engineering and airport engineering. It examines principles of geometric design of highways, railways, airports and ports, including basic principles of vehicle performance for road pavement design. It introduces earthworks construction with the consideration of earthmoving types, earthwork volumes, mass haul diagrams, soil volume properties, grade and rolling resistance, and assessment of main earthwork equipment and machines with optimisation techniques.
