About this Unit

As an introduction to the fundamental engineering science and analytical principles of soil and rock mechanics, this unit prepares students for more advanced geotechnical investigations, design tasks and software implementations of soil and rock mechanics. Students will have practical opportunities to apply their knowledge of basic rock and soil mechanics through experiencing first-hand the testing requirements that characterize rock and soil materials and underpin engineering design.
