About this Unit

This unit will introduce students to the clinical area and professional practice to facilitate the development of skills in the management of midwifery practice of well women and babies in a variety of midwifery settings. The student explores reflective practice, interaction and communication with the woman and family. This unit includes experience in woman-centred care as part of midwifery continuity of care with individual women through pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period. The Midwife Standards for Practice (2018) inform the scope and purpose of this introductory unit.
