About this Unit

Mental health recovery approaches will be applied to explore mental health experiences across the lifespan. These mental health experiences will be explored in relation to the Mental Health Act of Western Australia. Recovery oriented assessment will be utilised to develop strategies to work alongside people in recovery. The use of the mental status exam and risk assessment will be explored; along with the utilisation of safety management plans. The recovery philosophy and medical model will be compared in the area of mental health. Skills in contemporary occupational therapy practice and service delivery will be developed
