About this Unit

This unit introduces students to the development of an engineering feasibility study for mining operations. It focuses on assessment of reserves, method selection, mine design layout, geo-technical design, ventilation design, mine scheduling, equipment selection, designing for closure, cost estimation and financing. Students will be introduced to state-of-the-art mining design and planning software which will develop their skills and knowledge around project risk assessment, relative environmental risks, potential impacts (positive and negative) on Indigenous people, other local and regional communities. By working collaboratively on projects with their peers, students will develop the teamwork skills required in the workplace. Students are required to attend engineering seminars and project consultations given by experienced consulting engineers within the area of mining feasibility studies
