Which units require MINE3008?

MINE3008 is a prerequisite for 2 units.

What is MINE3008 about?

This unit focuses on the attributes, knowledge and techniques that are required to provide a cost effective and safe underground mining working environment through sound ventilation practice. Students will evaluate and analyse ventilation systems for both coal and metalliferous underground mines. Using ventilation design models and simulation techniques they will determine the ventilation measures required to control underground hazards in a given operational context, and to meet the legislative requirements that apply to the provision of ventilation in a mine. Students will be introduced to emerging new technologies relevant to ventilation, such as ‘on demand’ ventilation, advanced sensor systems for air monitoring, and the use of electric vehicles. They also will learn about the importance of integrating the management of ventilation into the broader mine design process. There will be a requirement for students to participate in 3 days of fieldwork activities.
