What is MENT2001 about?

This unit is designed to introduce students to knowledge, skills and attitudes to equip them to provide psychosocial care in a variety of health settings to people who are experiencing chronic mental health conditions. Using an evidence-based approach, the unit will explore and discuss mental health nursing in Australia, and focus on the importance of biopsychosocial assessments, person-centred and trauma-informed care, and active participation of consumers and carers in mental health assessment and recovery planning. The unit will also explore contemporary challenges such as suicide prevention, postvention, and the management of high-prevalence disorders, including anxiety and depression. Additionally, students will gain insights into psychopharmacology and other treatments, and the crucial role of psychoeducation and self-management in managing emerging mental health challenges.
