About this Unit

This unit will provide students with the ability to understand the stages of engineering design for mechanical systems and devices and able to choose tools appropriate for each stage with the aim of optimising the design process. The students will be able to use classical design optimization methods such as linear programming, simplex algorithm and geometric programming for design optimisation. In addition, students will apply modern design methodologies such as parametric design, robust design and axiomatic design for parts and systems.
