About this Unit

The Energy Transport unit is a comprehensive study of the movement of energy from its sources to end-users. This unit covers the technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects particularly related to Indigenous stakeholders of energy transport, including the infrastructure used to transport energy, the different types of energy sources, and the policies and regulations that govern the energy transport sector. Students learn about the infrastructure used to transport energy, including the electricity grid, pipelines, tank carriers and coal transport. The technical and economic factors that influence energy transport decision-making, including cost, reliability, efficiency, and regulatory requirements are covered. Students are introduced to the environmental impacts associated with different energy sources and transport modes, including greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, and land use impacts. Students learn how these impacts are evaluated and how trade-offs between different impacts and energy benefits are made.Additionally, the course covers the national energy policy framework in Australia, including the role of energy market regulations and institutions, climate change policy, and renewable energy targets. Students learn about the opportunities and challenges associated with the transition to a low-carbon energy system, including the role of renewable energy sources and the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries.
