About this Unit

This unit covers power system’s modelling using single line diagram and per-unit system. The calculations of overhead transmission line parameters (Resistance, capacitance, and inductance) are demonstrated and used to model transmission lines of various lengths (short, medium, and long) using equivalent electrical circuits. These models are used to calculate the ABCD parameters, efficiency, and voltage regulation of transmission lines. Various power flow calculation methods (Gauss-Seidel, Newton Raphson, fast decoupled and DC) for power systems during steady state operation are explained. The last topic covered in this unit includes fault current calculations during symmetrical and unsymmetrical (line-ground, line-line, 2 lines-ground) faults, rating of circuit breakers and power system stability.
