About this Unit

This unit introduces the key concepts and methods that are needed by Civil Engineers to understand, evaluate and analyse engineering activity in water and environmental development. Students will learn the key concepts and measures of water quality; as well as treatment methods for both water and wastewater. Basic design and evaluation of the principles of conventional water and wastewater treatment recycling and re-use will be addressed, as well as emerging trends. Current legislation and best management practices regarding water, air quality, biodiversity and other aspects of the local environment will be discussed. Students will learn to identify, select and evaluate key environmental methods and best practices that lead towards more sustainable engineering actions.
