About this Unit

This unit focuses on the sustainable issues in concrete and materials and methods to improve the durability of concrete. Students will be introduced to various ways and methods to make concrete more sustainable using supplementary cementitious materials and recycled concrete. Basic mechanisms causing deterioration (reasons for repair) of concrete structures will be discussed. Tests for assessing durability of concrete structures, repair/restoration methods/techniques will also be discussed. Students will be introduced to Life Cycle assessment/analysis of concrete. Case studies of structures in service will be discussed and analysed.
