About this Unit

This unit will cover theoretical concepts and their practical application in process monitoring and fault diagnosis within a multivariate statistical process monitoring framework. This will include a general data analytical methodology to deal with structured, as well as unstructured process data typically encountered in process plants. In this framework, feature extraction from signals and images will be considered, use of these features in models designed to monitor processes, as well as the construction of diagnostic models to interpret process deviations. Students will gain a comprehensive overview of advanced statistics and machine learning methods to enable them to deal with nonlinear systems commonly found in the resources industries. This will include the application of deep neural networks in process fault and anomaly detection, as well as the application of methods in explainable artificial intelligence to diagnose faults.
