About this Unit

In this unit, students will apply the concepts of sociology to the study of food and nutrition, by exploring links between social organisation and individual behaviour. Students will analyse the interactions between the sociological (social, cultural, economic and political) and biomedical influences on food selection for a range of population sub-groups, both nationally and globally. Reflective practice will be used to investigate how students’ own lived experience shapes their perspectives, and they will apply newfound understanding to their development as emerging health professionals.
