About this Unit

This unit is designed in three blocks. The first block promotes the general knowledge of fluid mechanics for system analyses. This section provides insight into sources of energy loss, pumps and other turbomachinery equipment. The second block combines some of the essential subjects in particulate flow and elaborates on particle-flow interactions. The section is continued with granular beds and porous media engineering. The section on particulate flow is concluded with fundamentals and application of discrete element modelling (DEM) to be used as numerical tools for particle-flow simulations.The third block introduces the non-Newtonian fluids, including slurries and dives into understanding rheological behaviours. Multiple methods of pressure drop, unique characteristics and design implications are discussed.
