About this Unit

Feature Journalism develops and extends the research, interviewing and writing skills acquired in earlier units. The unit explores long form storytelling and considers how different storytelling techniques such as anecdotes, description and character development work with factual and explanatory material to construct powerful journalism. Students develop their own long form ideas and produce engaging and relevant written and/or audio stories and photos for the Western Independent website. The unit explains and evaluates different forms, styles and structures that features can take. Students will analyse and learn from outstanding long form journalism from around the world, and consider the complexities of the journalist-source relationship. Feature Journalism explains the importance of, and encourages a reflective and ethical approach, to interviewing, research and writing techniques for long form journalism.
