About this Unit

This unit explores the design, use, and maintenance of relational databases as a facet of software development. Students develop entity-relationship (ER) models using established theory on database normalisation and relational algebra, map these models to the structures of a relational database, and construct SQL queries to update and answer complex questions about the data. The unit addresses advanced aspects of database programming, including triggers, transactions and concurrency control, and the integration of databases into software applications.

Good unit to learn datbase systems. Lectures were not particularly interesting. Practical tests were run extremely strict. Assignment brief was very poor, lots of students were confused.
