About this Unit

This unit examines common threats to computer systems ranging from organised attacks to viruses and malware. It provides students with the knowledge required to identify, analyse and respond to these threats and vulnerabilities affecting enterprise networks. The unit also develops detailed knowledge of computer forensics including investigative approaches and tools used in both Linux/Windows environments. Students explore techniques used in large-scale and coordinated network attacks and evaluate methods for mitigating and responding to such attacks. The unit further examines the foundations of viruses and malware including typical security weaknesses exploited by malicious software and web-based attacks. In the final component of the unit, students study in detail the tools available on Windows and Unix-based systems for detecting and trace hacking and intrusion activities.

Interesting unit. Content was decent, lectures were poor in my opionion. Lecturer/UC was disengaged with the group presentations (on his phone etc). Would not reccomend taking as an elective. Labs and tests were badly run.
