About this Unit

This unit covers the engineering design and construction of shallow foundations (pad, strip, combined, strap and raft) and deep foundations, including single and group pile foundations, as well as the special design of stiffened slab footings on expansive soils. Students will learn how to choose the best type of foundations for certain structures, and will also develop an understanding of the fundamental design aspects and the corresponding affecting parameters.
