About this Unit

This project style unit will cover modern mineral exploration strategies, concepts and techniques with a practical on approach within an environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework. The unit will introduce different types of ore deposits and application of the mineral systems approach to select areas, explore and define targets for different deposit types using geological, geochemical and geophysical methods and modern data acquisition techniques. Students will learn about the drilling methods, analytical and QAQC procedures, acquisition using modern geophysical, analytical and scanning techniques, visualisation and interpretation of geological, geochemical and geophysical data in GIS and industry standard 3D software, culminating in a real world mineral exploration project. The role of technological advances in achieving sustainable practises in mineral exploration will also be introduced.
