About this Unit

High frequency models for the Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) and the Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) will be introduced and incorporated into transistor circuits. Methods for analytical analysis and simulation for these transistor circuits will then be given. Analysis and simulation will be used to determine transfer functions of standard single stage transistor amplifiers. Multistage transistor amplifiers including output stage amplifiers will then be examined. Non ideal operational amplifier characteristics will be introduced and methods for their circuit analysis examined. Theory and design of feedback amplifiers including stability criteria will be examined and applied to common operational amplifier circuits. Extensive use of MAPLE/MATLAB and PSPICE simulation tools is made throughout the unit activities.
