About this Unit

This unit covers two main sections in Water Engineering; hydraulics and hydrology. Hydraulics part provides principles of hydraulic pumps and open channel flow and their applications in civil engineering. Hydraulic pumps introduces civil engineering applications of hydraulic pumps including efficiency of hydraulic pumps, pumps and pipeline systems, operation of multiple pumps, pump characteristics and pump laws. Open channel flow introduces basic concepts of open channels flow, such as energy and critical flow, flow transition, uniform and non-uniform flow, and hydraulic jump. Hydrology part covers the basic theories and applications of surface water hydrology and ground water hydrology. Analysis of main components of hydrological cycle (precipitation, evapotranspiration, infiltration, runoff, and groundwater) and techniques for hydrological assessments such as hydrographs, frequency analysis and urban hydrology will be introduced.
