About this Unit

This unit focuses on computer hardware and architecture. It provides grounding on the hardware fundamentals of digital logic design from the perspective of a Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Storage (MIPS) processor architecture. Basic techniques on Boolean algebra and minimisation are covered to design combinational circuits and sequential systems which are building blocks to a MIPS. Using Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and examining assembly language, students will be able to gain further understanding of complex computer architectures.
