About this Unit

This unit is an introduction to the use of Excel, one of the fundamental tools of business, with an emphasis upon financial applications. The unit will provide a mix of the theoretical framework of key financial concepts, such as accumulated value and discounted present value, alongside practical application. The basic and financial functions of Excel will be used to solve business problems such as the preparation of a loan amortisation schedule and determination of discounted present value and internal rate of return for a series of fixed cash flows. The importance of clarity, structure and flexibility in the development of Excel spreadsheets will also be covered.
