About this Unit

This unit contains advanced topics on least-squares survey network analysis and design. The method of parametric least-squares for one-, two- and three-dimensional survey network adjustments is reviewed. Advanced methods of datum definition are introduced, including inner constraints and pseudo-inverse solutions, as well as the S-transformation between different solutions. The unit covers statistical testing of least-squares results through the goodness-of-fit test, variance factor test, variance component estimation, and Baarda’s and Pope’s tests for outlier detection. It also covers analysis of survey network quality through global and local measures of network precision, redundancy numbers, and reliability theory. In addition, optimisation of network design and the Standard for the Australian Control Network (SP1) are treated.
