About this Unit

In this unit, students will learn how to solve geospatial and surveying problems and study theory of geographic information systems and technology. Skills and best practice learned in this unit will be supported by the theoretical fundamentals of geoinformation science, geodata organisation and management (including standard geodata structures, design and implementation of geodata management systems), and with necessary essentials of primary and secondary techniques used to acquire geodata (including Remote Sensing and Earth Observation, geodata search and discovery, geodata digitization and geodata format conversion). The emphasis in this unit is on learning about fundamental geodata types and their representation, organization and management. Students will understand the process and requirements for basic geospatial analysis with geographic information systems. Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to use geographic information systems to solve common geospatial and surveying problems.
