About this Unit

The unit studies the role of political and economic relations between states, between non-state actors (NGOs, community groups, business) and between states and non-state actors in the creation and maintenance of global economic, financial and environmental structures and policy. Topics include theoretical approaches to IPE, international trade, the global financial system, the integrating power of information technologies, the relationship between states, markets and communities, global environmental governance regimes, environmental sustainability and global population and demographic trends, the role of international institutions, theories of accumulations, and the political economy of international development. The unit will be comparative and draw on case materials from a wide range of societies and states.
