About this Unit

This unit is intended to introduce the fundamental concepts of pharmacokinetics (i.e. the ‘passage/time course’ of drugs through the human body) and further extend student understanding of pharmaceutical analysis. This unit is divided into two learning modules. Module 1 includes drug bioanalysis, immunoassays, tracer techniques, fluorescence spectroscopy (fluorimetry), HPCE and mass spectrometry. Module 2 covers basic pharmacokinetic principles, drug absorption/distribution (including MRT), applied pharmacokinetics (including PK-PD relationships), hepatic/renal clearance, drug metabolism and bioequivalence.
