About this Unit

This unit covers contemporary models of patient consultation including; inter and intra-professional communication, taking into consideration patient health literacy, cultural awareness and patient counselling for a range of dosage forms. Students will continue to hone their skills in the provision of primary care (history/examination/diagnosis/management/monitoring) of minor skin disorders including dry skin, eczema, acne, sunburn and fungal skin infections. Bites and stings, infestations, foot care and personal care will also be discussed. Students are introduced to systems of governance and risk management including medicine supply, administration, dispensing and prescribing legislation, pharmacy premises legislation, national privacy and confidentiality principles, codes of conduct and ethics. Students are required to obtain S2/S3 certification as part of this unit. This unit requires students to accurately perform applied pharmaceutical calculations.
