About this Unit

Built upon the knowledge gained in the unit - Fundamentals of Reservoir Engineering (PEEN3001), this unit covers the practical, larger scale techniques used to analyse and make decisions about the long-term performance of hydrocarbon reservoirs. The unit starts with a discussion around well test analysis using a log-log Type Curve technique. Then the rest of the unit discusses in details the reservoir production management and foresting techniques such as the material balance calculations, aquifer modelling, immiscible displacement (Theory of Buckley-Leverett), production performance forecasting, generation and application of pseudo-functions and basics of enhanced oil recovery. Overall, this unit provides the petroleum reservoir engineers with the practical knowledge they need in forecasting and then managing and possibly enhancing recovery from hydrocarbon reservoirs.
