About this Unit

The unit covers the basic mechanisms of disease that include a series of lectures, tutorials and online practical sessions made up of three modules, Cellular pathology, System pathology and Neoplasia. Module one covers cell injury/death including apoptosis, atrophy, hypertrophy, and necrosis. Module two covers organ system pathology in respiratory, GIT and cardiovascular organs. Module three is an introduction to carcinogenesis, covering benign and malignant entities. The relationship of pathology to laboratory diagnostic testing will be utilised through the tutorial sessions within the unit.
