Explore how co-creative digital and social media practices can help shape the future of online culture in ethical and socially meaningful ways. This capstone unit consolidates your prior learning - especially in Web Media - by connecting theoretical principles to applied practice through a socially engaged digital project. You'll begin by writing a solo proposal on an issue or opportunity that matters to you, while exploring ideas like design justice (creating media with equity and inclusion in mind), civic imagination (using media to imagine better futures), and critical creation (thoughtful, purposeful digital making). Next, in small teams, you’ll select, design, and produce a public-facing digital project. Finally, you’ll heighten engagement and participation with a focused outreach that draws on the participatory and algorithmic practices that shape digital culture.
