About this Unit

This unit covers the principles and practices vital to the successful running of a mining enterprise. Students will learn about the legal context in which modern mining is conducted, including mining law, health and safety legislation, environmental regulation, and laws protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Students will explore the application of different techniques including risk analysis methods and safety data analytics to ensure a safe mining operation. The operations management component of the unit will cover the planning, organising, leading and controlling of management operations, with an emphasis on supply chain management and ‘whole-of-system’ optimisation. Through working collaboratively students will also develop the teamwork and negotiation skills appropriate to the mining industry.
