About this Unit

In this unit students will revise the necessary numerical skills and basic algebraic skills to solve pre-calculus problems found in science, engineering and business-related fields through the application of commonly occurring simple mathematical functions and techniques of linear algebra. The unit covers the properties, manipulations and solutions of algebraic equations and inequalities as well as polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and rational functions. Students will learn trigonometry of the triangle and its use in the solution of right angle and acute triangles and also trigonometry of the circle including angular velocity and acceleration. Students will be introduced to idea of a complex number and use in solutions to polynomial equations. This unit will cover basic vectors and their applications. This unit also covers matrices and their use for solving systems of linear equations through a study of a number of different types of solution methods. This unit is designed for those students who only have the rudimentary maths knowledge so that no real prerequisite is required.
